Themis, 1969 Eau de Parfum
The Inspiration:
Themis, 1969 is inspired by a time and a place: Themis Boutique on La Cienega Boulevard in Los Angeles, which The Doors’ lead singer Jim Morrison financed for his girlfriend, Pamela Courson, in the Winter of 1968/1969. Pam and Jim named the boutique after the ancient Greek goddess of divine order. Themis was open by appointment only, and served as a sanctuary for the “beautiful people” of late 1960s Los Angeles. Sparing no cost for the love of his life and muse, Jim bankrolled Pamela’s vision for a cutting-edge boutique that would transport her guests to a world of exoticism and beauty. Rare clothing from Morocco and France, artifacts from around the globe, and perfume oils, candles, and incense all comprised the intoxicating alchemy of Themis.
The Fragrance:
In homage to the first heady months after the boutique opened, Themis, 1969 conjures the natural scents of Southern California in springtime, as well as aromas that Pamela would have encountered during her shopping excursions to Morocco. The fragrance opens with a smoky, briny note of burnt seashells from the California coast and yuzu, a Japanese citrus fruit that echoes the smell of fresh, green “bud.” Honeysuckle and orange blossom – two flowers that proliferate across Los Angeles in the warmer months - merge in the fragrance’s lush heart. An earthy and enveloping dry-down of patchouli, amber, vanilla, and sandalwood evokes the swirling scents of a Moroccan souk.
